MEERUT: An 18-year-old girl died after suffering a heart attack while dancing at her cousin’s ‘haldi ceremony’ in Meerut on Saturday evening. The victim was a resident of Lisari Gate and the ceremony was taking place in the city’s Ahmed Nagar area. A video of the tragic incident was later widely circulated on social media.
In the 30-second clip, the 18-year-old, identified by her first name, Rimsha, could be seen in a yellow dress, dancing on a Bollywood track with her relatives. She then suddenly touches her chest and tries to hold someone’s hand before collapsing on the ground.
Mohd Ahmed, 42, one of her neighbours, told TOI, “Rimsha was dancing with others when she suddenly fainted, and was rushed to a nearby doctor, who declared her as brought dead. A heart attack is suspected as the cause of her death. The wedding has now been postponed.”
Police were initially not informed about the incident. “Action will be taken from our end if someone files a complaint,” a senior cop said.
