Prince William’s friendship with Hugh goes back generations. King Charles is Grosvenor’s godfather, having shared a close bond with Grosvenor’s father, the late Gerald Grosvenor. So warm was the relationship that the then Prince of Wales asked Gerald Grosvenor to act as a mentor for a young Prince William.

The family bond endured as Prince William, Prince Harry and Hugh grew up in the public eye. William asked Hugh to be Prince George’s godfather, and Harry did the same after the birth of Prince Archie. The Duke of Westminster attended both brothers’ weddings, William and Kate’s wedding in 2010 and Harry and Meghan’s 2018 nuptials. Neither the Duke of Sussex, nor the Duchess, will be there to witness Grosvenor’s own big day.

And what a day it is set to be. The Duke of Westminster topped the Sunday Times rich list last week with his £10 billion fortune. Despite owning swathes of land in London’s most prestigious postcodes, including 50 per cent of Mayfair, Grosvenor announced he will move to Cheshire after marrying Olivia Henson, perhaps looking to put down roots in his 10,000 acre family home and ancestral seat, Eaton Hall.
