Is anything chicer than wearing The Row to your wedding?

In what might just be the cool girl wedding of the year, Broad City star Abbi Jacobson and her partner of almost four years, actor Jodi Balfour have tied the knot in New York.

The pair first met virtually in 2020 and began dating in October that year. Two years later and they were engaged when Jacobson proposed during a trip to London—not realising Balfour had already bought a ring for her, too.

An outdoor ceremony was followed by an intimate dinner at Public Records and a surprise reception for guests.

Balfour told Cultured, “After dinner, the Westerlies burst out of the kitchen playing Stevie Wonder’s ‘Sir Duke.’ We followed them from the dining room to the dance floor in the sound room, where [Broad City’s music supervisor] Matt FX started DJing. I also surprised Abbi by asking our friends Lukas [Frank] and Zach [Dawes] to perform ‘True Love Will Find You in the End.’”

The actors told the magazine that they had to make a few last minute changes due to some unexpectedly bad weather. Originally, the outdoor ceremony was supposed to be followed by an al fresco buffet. However, a bout of rain forced them to re-plan. Balfour mused, “Because of the rain, our outdoor seated dinner became an indoor buffet. I remember calling Emma [Leigh MacDonald], the chef, on the brink of tears about the idea of a goddamn buffet. We had been planning the seated dinner for months. Emma said, ‘It’s going to be beautiful. There will be no bunsen burners.’ She called in Sophie [Lou Jacobsen, the designer] to help make it possible. I was so relieved that we had chosen these partners in crime.”

The rain also threw a spanner in the works when it came to getting ready. Jacobsen explained to Cultured that they were running late to meet their mothers a the venue where they were supposed to prepare.

“Because of the rain, everything switched around, and we ended up getting ready in a supply closet,” she said.

For the ceremony, both women wore dresses from Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s brand, The Row—right off the rack, no less!

They both changed for the party, picking archive pieces from Tab Vintage in Los Angeles. Jacobson wore a chainmail-look Versace mini, while Balfour opted for a Vivienne Westwood number.

The couple also shared that they had their first dance to Aretha Franklin’s ‘Don’t Let Me Lose This Dream’, which they say was followed by a raucous party. Oh, to be a fly on the wall!
