Cody Simpson’s family have hinted that wedding bells could be on the cards for the pop star and his golden girl, Emma McKeon.
It seems like it’s only a matter of time before the pair take the plunge into marriage, if proud mum Angie and his sister Alli have anything to do with it.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Alli and Angie said they hope for a future engagement and that they adore the Olympic swimmer.
‘Oh, we love Emma,’ said Alli, 25.
The three of us went to a movie the other day and when Cody was working, we were like, we’re stealing Emma.’
‘She just shines. Yeah, and she makes Cody really happy, and it’s the most at peace I’ve seen Cody.’
Angie added, ‘She’s our favourite. If I could pick any girl in the world, I’d pick Emma.’
She also divulged a touching backstory about Emma.
‘The funny thing was I used to manage swim teams for Australia and Queensland, and she was one of my young girls on my teams,’ she said.
‘I always loved her back then, so it was kind of funny. And I swam with her parents back in the day.’
‘It’s a wonderful, it’s a full circle,’ Alli chimed in.
As for the prospects of an imminent wedding, Alli said: ‘Who knows… I mean, yeah, we’d be so happy if they did, you know, in their own time.’
‘Anything can happen, but we’re really happy for them.’
The couple, who recently enjoyed their one-year anniversary, celebrated by buying their first home together.
The pair splashed out $1.826million on a family-sized love nest on the Gold Coast, proving their headline-making romance that flourished during training for the 2022 Commonwealth Games has become rather serious.
Located in the coastal suburb of Labrador, the five-bedroom property boasts luxurious finishes and chic interiors worthy of Australia’s swimming golden couple.
It spans two levels and features three bathrooms, a large walk-in wardrobe, state-of-the-art appliances, and a grand entrance featuring high ceilings and a floating staircase.
Perhaps the most important detail is the large outdoor pool in the backyard, which Cody and Emma will no doubt use regularly.
Cody and Emma went ‘Instagram official’ with their relationship in July last year, three months after they began dating in secret.
Days after going public, the pair found themselves embroiled in a reported ‘love triangle’ with Emma’s ex-boyfriend and fellow Team Australia member Kyle Chalmers.
At the time it was claimed Kyle had blocked Cody’s entry into the ranks of the Australian Dolphins for the World Championships in Hungary after learning of their relationship.
Kyle had originally made the decision to not travel to Hungary for the competition, but back-flipped after his ex’s relationship with Cody became public.
However, he vehemently denied any suggestion this move was due to a personal vendetta against the former pop star.
Cody later got a ‘one up’ on Kyle when he was named on the ten-man shortlist for the GQ Sportsman of the Year award, while Kyle missed out.
The musician and swimmer is hoping to turn his Olympic dream into a reality in Paris in 2024.
