On the latest segment of CBS Mornings, co-host Gayle King took a break from regularly-scheduled programming to report on a very special story: The news anchor announced that her son, William Bumpus Jr., married Elise Smith on Sunday, June 2, 2024. “My favorite son, Will, and my new favorite daughter-in-law, Elise Smith, tied the knot on Sunday,” she said during the broadcast. King then revealed the venue: Oprah Winfrey’s home. “Oprah, of course, was there ‘cause it was at Oprah’s house,” she joked. “It’s always nice when she lets us use her house.” Although the TV host was in attendance, the affair was “strictly for family,” according to King.

King shared that the highlight of the affair for her was the vow exchange. “They both wrote their own vows, and at one point, Will said, ‘I know the man I am, but with you, I know the man I want to be,’” the broadcast journalist recounted, reflecting on the line that gave her “goosebumps.” Every part of the wedding, though, was a testament to their profound connection, King said. “I have never seen a love like the two of them have,” she gushed. “You go to weddings, and everybody is in love, but there was something about these two that I thought was very epic—it was next level.”

Later that day, King took to Instagram to give her followers and fans an inside look at the pre-wedding festivities. “Big wedding weekend for favorite son Will and my favorite daughter in law, the lovely @elisemariesmith,” she captioned her post. “Swipe left for photos of the rehearsal, with @oprah weighing in…turns out she’s a pretty good wedding planner! Then a welcome dinner at the @rosewoodmiramarbeach …shout out to @emmarosefloral, you killed it! The night ended with an impromptu dance party in a room that didn’t have a dance floor! Black people always find a way—especially my family 💃🏽🕺🏽.”

The first several photos in the carousel were captured in a grassy area, supposedly Oprah’s backyard. The images show Smith donning a strapless, ruched white dress with a flared skirt, an oversized bow on the bodice, and white platform sneakers. In the pictures, Bumpus Jr. is sporting a light blue suit and beige loafers. King stunned in a long-sleeved, floor-length gown in vibrant tones featuring all-over pleating and an empire waist. Oprah is also spotted in a few of the photos—one consulting with what appears to be the planning team and another with King in front of a greenery-adorned trellis. In each of the shots, the TV host is wearing a figure-hugging black dress with long sleeves and a side leg slit.

In the next part of the carousel, King took viewers to the welcome dinner. In a video of the setup, the camera captures the entryway, which was covered in lush flowers and greenery, before showcasing the spread of tables, topped with white linens, chinoiserie-style plates, mauve pillar candles, and floral centerpieces. The clip also highlights a bar overlooking the ocean. Another video, which was taken during the welcome dinner, shows King, the couple of honor, and the guests singing and dancing to a live musician.

The final two videos in the carousel show what happened at the welcome dinner later that evening. The footage exhibits Bumpus Jr. and Smith dancing and laughing with one another and their guests. After showing off the dance move, “raising the roof,” the groom takes Smith’s hands and spins her around before he grabs his mother to dance. Another clip documents King—wearing a mini floral dress with a tiered skirt—spinning around the dance floor with the now-newlyweds and many of their guests. Since this celebration was a family-focused affair, King noted that the duo will host a larger wedding with friends later on.
