A groom-to-be is in a spot of bother after accidentally losing his bride’s $2,000 wedding dress, after putting it on top of his car and driving off.

Tom Mitton and his fiancee Lindel Cain were picking up items from a storage unit in Adelaide on Sunday morning when he put the package containing his wife’s Belgian-made dress on the car’s roof so it wouldn’t be crushed by his heavy boxes.

But, crucially, he forgot to put the frock back in the car before driving off.

Miss Cain has done her best to remain calm and plans to buy a new dress if it can't be found

‘We were pulling into Burnside Village (shopping centre) when the penny dropped for him, and we quickly turned around and tried to retrace our steps,’ Miss Cain said.

‘We parked the car and walked along the road with trucks going 90km/h past us, trying to find the box somewhere on the side of the road.’

Despite re-tracing their steps, the couple have not been able to find the dress.

Mr Mitton said he was ‘angry’ at himself for his mistake.

His fiancee has done her best to remain calm and plans to buy a new dress if it can’t be found.

‘For a man who isn’t very emotional, there were lots of emotions yesterday, lots of tears on his behalf because he could see how upset I was,’ she said.

The couple are offering a $500 reward to anyone who finds the parcel, which has her name on it

She said there had been ‘lots of laughs and trying to make light of the situation’ but that she was understandably upset.

The couple are offering a $500 reward to anyone who finds the parcel, which has her name on it.

Thankfully, the wedding isn’t until 2025.

‘It’s going to make a very good speech at the wedding,’ Miss Cain joked .
