A young woman has been slammed for the ‘revealing’ and ‘inappropriate’ dress she  chose for her brother’s wedding – with many claiming she wants to steal attention away from the bride.

Clara* recently asked for advice on what accessories to wear for the upcoming ceremony and attached a photo of her dress in a popular Facebook group.

The Australian woman was planning on wearing the Chainmail Split Column Maxi Dress ($1,190) from Michael Lo Sordo.

The floor-length dress is partially backless and contains a hip-high split. Its material is figure-hugging and designed for a close fit.

Many immediately pointed out how the sparkling silver dress is ‘unusual’ for a guest – even a maid of honour like Clara – and they couldn’t understand why she would want to wear something so racy to her brother’s wedding.

‘It’s poor etiquette to outshine the bride on her day – even if you are hot as! Don’t go there sweet, you’ll get attention for ask the wrong reasons,’ one said.

‘Definitely not appropriate on any level for a wedding,’ another chided.

A woman wrote: ‘The back and side view of dress don’t fit with high-end wedding attire in my experience.’

‘Absolutely not – what are you trying to do?’ one demanded. ‘

Clara was shocked by all the backlash and revealed that the bride had chosen the dress for her.

‘The designer is tailoring the dress to my body so it won’t be as revealing,’ she said. ‘The bride picked this for me.’

A few complimented her fine taste and suggested she ignore the critics.

‘Stunning! You will look unreal!’ a woman said.

‘The bride’s dress must be wild to outshine this one,’ another added.

‘This is a beautiful dress that requires zero justification or explanation, I think you will look stunning and I hope you enjoy your brother’s wedding,’ a third wrote.
