‘I disinvited my sister from our wedding after pulling cruel stunt – I am horrified’ – The Mirror

A woman has been left furious after her sister pulled a “cruel” prank before her sister’s wedding – and the bride has been left unable to trust her.

Planning a wedding is such an exciting time for an engaged couple, but it’s no secret that it can also be stressful. From sorting invitations and table plans, to finding the perfect venue and outfits, there is a lot to organise before the big day. One 28-year-old bride was “horrified” when her sister played a joke on her wedding guests.

The bride, who wishes to remain unnamed, explained on Reddit recently that her 25-year-old sister has “always been a bit of a prankster”. She added that most of the time her jokes are “harmless” but on this occasion she took things too far when she messed with her wedding.

The joker reportedly sent out fake wedding invitations to their relatives and her sister’s friends. The invitations said the big day would be “a casual backyard BBQ and everyone should bring a dish to share”. The incident caused “a lot of confusion and stress” explained the bride, and left her disinviting the prankster from her wedding day – which will be a formal event and not in a “backyard”.

Speaking in more detail about what happened, the bride took to Reddit page ‘Am I The A****e’ and said: “She took it too far. She decided it would be funny to send out fake wedding invitations to a bunch of our relatives and some of my friends. I found out about this when one of my aunts called me to ask what she should bring to the BBQ. I was confused at first, but then she forwarded me the invitation she received. I was horrified.”

The bride claims when she confronted her sister she “laughed it off” adding that it was “just a joke” and she was reportedly planning on sending out the real invitations “soon”. “She apologised, but I could tell she didn’t really see what the big deal was,” commented the annoyed woman.

Standing firm, the bride added: “After thinking it over, I decided that I don’t want her at my wedding. I don’t trust her not to pull another stunt, and I don’t want to spend my wedding day worrying about what she might do.”

The sister reportedly “flipped out” and told the bride she was “overreacting”. The bride’s parents also were upset with her and said it was “cruel” to exclude the sister from an important event.

“Now I’m starting to wonder if I’m being too harsh,” she added and she asked for help on the dilemma. Hundreds of people rushed to share their advice on the matter. One other suggested to get payback and said: “Send her a fake invite with the wrong address. You know, for jokes and stuff. When she misses the event, tell her she’s overreacting.”

Commenting on the sister’s prank, another added: “Genuinely cannot see how that’s funny. It smacks of a jealous, insecure little girl who wants to ruin your day.” Agreeing with the bride, another suggested: “Tell parents it’s more cruel of your sister to try and make a farce out of your wedding and for them to side with her on it. Get security so she doesn’t try to get in anyway and pull something.”

One other said: “Personally, I wouldn’t let her send out the real invitations. Double check them to make sure that they are correctly printed and the addresses are correct.” Another commenter said: “Sister has shown no remorse, has not done anything to undo her harm – such as actually telephone every single person she sent an invite out to and explain that it was a ‘prank’.”

Another shocked individual added: “Oh my gosh! Yeah she went a bit too far. It’s your wedding. Everyone knows you don’t mess with certain things and a wedding is one of them.”
