PRUDENVILLE, Mich. (WJRT) – A 57-year-old man from Livingston County got his new marriage off to a hot start with a $1 million Michigan Lottery prize a day after his wedding.

The lucky winner was driving his bride through Prudenville in Roscommon County when he stopped at the E-Z Mart on West Houghton Lake Drive. He purchased the Diamonds & Pearls scratch off ticket and handed it to his new wife.

She scratched off the ticket, which revealed the “$1MIL” symbol that indicates they hit the jackpot. The new couple couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

“We kept reading the instructions over and over again to make sure we really won,” the 57-year-old winner said. “It was an exciting couple of days for us.”

The couple decided to accept their prize as a $693,000 lump sum rather than annuity payments for the full amount. They plan to invest their winnings.

Michigan Lottery players have won $14 million worth of prizes from the Diamonds & Pearls instant game since August. More than $37 million worth of prizes remain, including two more $1 million jackpots.
