This Relaxed Italian Bride Chose A Linen Dress For Her Late Summer Wedding In Sardinia – British Vogue

Newlyweds Margherita and Alex first met in Sardinia in the summer of 2018, through mutual friends. The groom, a Brazilian from São Paulo, had recently moved back to his hometown after spending six years in New York, while Margherita, born and raised in Milan, had just finished her post-graduate degree in art history in London. “A mutual friend put us in touch because he was coming to Sardinia for a family vacation and needed travel advice,” she says. “By chance, I happened to be there at the same time, in my family’s house. After a few messages, he invited me out to buy me a drink and thank me. From there, I can say it was love at first sight: we spent the whole week together in Sardinia.”

Alex had intended to continue on from Sardinia, on a road-trip from the Amalfi Coast to Milan. “He invited me to go with him,” Margherita says. “In short, it was a kind of honeymoon, after we met the week before.” As their spontaneous trip was drawing to a close, Alex invited Margherita to São Paulo. “Of course, my answer was a big yes. It all happened naturally.” Five years later they married in front of their loved ones in Sardinia, where it all began. “We wanted an intimate ceremony, surrounded by our best friends, our families and the people we love.”

For the couple’s “natural chic” wedding, Margherita opted for an unusual choice of bridal fabric: linen. “I met the designer Francesca Piccini through a friend of my mother’s, whose daughter had been married the previous year in Capri and had made her dream dress with her. I had in mind a simple, clean, modern pattern made with summer fabrics. We opted for a mix of linen and silk, which turned out to be perfect for the location and wedding style we desired!”
