Wedding With ‘Upstage the Bride’ Theme Has Internet Hooked – Newsweek

2 minutes, 35 seconds Read

Arguably the number one rule at any wedding is “don’t upstage the bride.” However, one couple broke the norms and challenged their guests to upstage the woman of the hour by dressing up for the big day.

Rachel Feinberg and Jonathan Wegner tied the knot on May 10 surrounded by friends and family—and they all put their best fashion foot forward, as per the dress code request of the happy couple.

While most brides would look to stand out against their guests, Feinberg and Wegner set their wedding party a challenge: to upstage the bride on her own wedding day.

The guests didn’t shy away from the opportunity to go big when it came to their outfits for the special occasion, with a video clip from the day gaining viral status as the internet became obsessed with the unconventional dress code.

Shared to TikTok by Sarah Beaumont (@sarahbromont), the video showing clips of different guests throughout the nuptials gained over 760,000 views and 80,000 likes from viewers obsessed with the fashion-forward outfits.

The styles selected by guests ranged from couture-inspired pieces to those that were more on the comical side, having fun with fashion and on-theme accessories, with a fruit hat, a light-up cape, and tie dye prints seen throughout. In fact, it seems everyone in attendance took the instructions seriously, with Beaumont writing in the caption, “When the bride says deliver, you deliver.”

For those worried that someone would actually succeed, despite the amount of tulle, sequins and bright colors seen at the event, the bride guaranteed she stayed the main fashion event with multiple outfit changes over the course of the day, each one outdoing the previous. Her looks included a floral headdress and a naked-effect number with white tulle adding a bridal touch as she danced the night away with guests.

What Do the Comments Say?

Instead of the controversial and unconventional dress code ruffling feathers up the wrong way, viewers of the video took to the comments to share just how much they loved the couple’s brief for their guests.

“I truly only want a wedding if it has this vibe. Otherwise I’m just gonna elope,” wrote one user.

“This is fantastic!” added a second. “The thing people forget is that no one can upstage the bride and groom on their wedding. It’s literally their day! That’s my thoughts as a 2025 bride anyway.”

“I’ve seen a few weddings with this theme and it is my dream. everyone is gorgeous everyone is happy everyone is art,” wrote one user. “I don’t need less to make me more. More makes us all more.”
